For the past five years Zach Sutton has been establishing himself as one of Toronto’s most dynamic and versatile young drummers. Zach completed his BFA in music at York University, where he was awarded The Oscar Peterson Jazz scholarship for excellence in performance. He has studied and performed in a wide range of World Music disciplines, including Traditional Cuban Percussion, Afro-Cuban Drums, Arabic Tamborine, Arabic Tabla, and Frame Drums.
Zach is a founding member of the pop-rock group Jane’s Party, who have toured Canada multiple times and played festivals such as North By Northeast, Canadian Music Week, and Halifax Pop Explosion. Along the way they’ve shared the stage with bands like Lights, Sam Roberts Band, Wintersleep, 54-40, and The Darcys. Their songs have been featured across Canadian radio, earning them a CBC Fresh Air award for being one of Ontario’s most promising young bands.
Zach also keeps time for the ascendant Devin Cuddy Band, fresh off their first Juno nomination and having just completed a cross-Canada tour opening for Blue Rodeo. They’ve appeared on numerous TV and radio programs across the country, and have been lauded by major media outlets including The Toronto Star, Edmonton Sun, Vancouver Sun, Exclaim, and Now Magazine. Check them out on the Canadian festival circuit this summer.
